The present challenges facing children and adolescents are truly unique. It can be a difficult task for today’s youth to make sense of the world and how they fit into it. For many, social, cultural, and academic pressures add up and cause significant emotional distress and behavioral problems. These situations affect families, and parents are often faced with unexpected scenarios. Mothers and fathers can feel hurt, lost, and hopeless when confronted with the challenges facing their children and family.
You and your child do not have to bear these burdens alone. A parent reaching out for support is not a sign of defeat but shows courage and a commitment to the love you have for your child and family.
I have worked with youth and families in various settings since 2001. I have counseled parents of newborns and provided therapy to children ages two and up. From community-based organizations, to schools, to medical settings, I have experience in connecting with children and helping parents navigate difficult situations and scenarios.
As a therapist working with youth I focus on connecting with the child emotionally and redirecting the behavior logically. Therapy will give your child the opportunity to express themselves in a healthy way. This allows for an open dialogue to consider behaviors and develop effective emotional regulation skills.
As a parent, you know your child best and you will always be their biggest advocate. When working with youth and families I always seek to affirm the parent’s influence. I aim to support families by improving communication and strengthening the relationship between you and your child. Therapy offers a safe setting to discuss problematic patterns of interacting and to learn and grow together as a family. Through improved communication and increased understanding, families can rediscover balance and relational satisfaction.
