Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition that affects people of all ages from all different cultures. Obsessions are intrusive and unwanted thoughts that a person has difficulty avoiding. They commonly cause intense anxiety and distress. Compulsions are behaviors that are intended to alleviate the obsessive thought. Yet, these compulsive acts do not end the obsession and a vicious cycle is often formed leaving the person feeling anxious and trapped.

OCD is often associated with thoughts of cleanliness and fear of germs. While this is one common form of OCD, the specific content of obsessions can take on a variety of types. Other common obsessions can involve fear of losing control, harming oneself or another, unwanted images, excessive concern about morality and religious activity, as well as thoughts related to perfectionism. Regardless of the specific content, OCD can torment a person and cause tremendous anxiety and despair.

Over the years I have had the privilege of working with many people afflicted by this disorder. From adolescents to adults, I have valued the chance to walk alongside these resilient people and offer education, practical tools, and support that helped them regain their lives.
