Christmas Decorations in March
The first couple of weeks in January are always a bit sad for me. The festive lights and decorations that seem to be everywhere through the holidays start to come down. Well, most of them. Some houses suffer from Chronic Holiday Decoration Procrastination. The strings of lights and the lawn inflatables that light up the street and inspired so much joy in December seem to be oddly out of place as the weeks go by in the New Year.
What is entirely appropriate in December becomes a bit curiously out of place in late January. By the time March rolls around the LED icicles hanging from the gutters and the inflatable Santa on the lawn do not inspire the same festive joy they did in December. If anything, they promote confusion and frustration.
There is a season for Christmas decorations. A time and a place where they are appropriate, acceptable, and even useful. But seasons change and usher in a different set of appropriate activities.
What are the “Christmas decorations” in your life that are long overdue to be brought down? What are the changes you need to make in this new season of life? What habits, attitudes, or activities need to be packed up and swapped out?
We all loved your inflatable Santa riding a Harley out on your lawn back in December. But it’s now March, and we know you’ve got something else you can offer us.
