Appetite for Change

Appetite for Change

Appetites can be fickle.

Consider the Wikipedia description of appetite: “Appetite is the desire to eat food, sometimes due to hunger. Appealing foods can stimulate appetite even when hunger is absent, although appetite can be greatly reduced by satiety.”

So appetites are an innate sensation that serves the greater good to keep us fed and alive.

Unless it becomes easily swayed by that sugary donut that we don’t need. But oh, does it look tasty!

Our desires for change in other areas of life are a lot like our appetites.

You feel the hunger pains of stress and know that you want things to be different.

Or you see an appealing different scenario and you get hungry for what you don’t have.

Your appetite for change is high at these moments.

Good. Maybe something really does need to change. But sometimes our appetites get satiated before any real change occurs.

The kids have stopped screaming so I finally get a moment of quiet and don’t need to worry about the underlying conflict until it happens again. Or the bills are paid this month so I don’t need to worry about my impulsive spending habits until the bills are due again next month.

What isn’t changing in your life because you get satiated by the fleeting moments of relief?

Our appetite for change will help lead us to the desired goals we want to achieve. Be hungry for the right things and the right reasons. And stay hungry. Stay hungry until your dreams are realized and fill you up. I bet it will be satisfying.
